Independent Wine Reviews

Tony Aspler, Égalité 2021, (90 Points) Deep purple colour; cedary, black and redcurrant bouquet with oak spice and vanilla notes; medium-bodied, dry, mouth-filling flavours of blackcurrant and plum with supple tannins on the finish. (Tasted December 2024)

Égalité 2021 92-23 points)— This 100% estate-grown and hand-picked red wine is equal parts, or one barrel each of, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Merlot. The grapes were vinified separately, wild fermented and barrel-aged for 17-months in mostly neutral French oak then blended for bottling, unfiltered. This is the first in what will eventually be the top tier at Black Bank Hill. Such an inviting and perfumed nose of ripe red berries, cassis, plums, subtle earthy notes, and elegant spices. It’s a bold blend with an elegant disposition and shows a nicely harmonic mix of red and dark berries, earthy/savoury notes, fine grained tannins, chalky minerality, anise and that fine, spicy edge that only the best French oak barrels can impart. Such verve and finesse on the long finish. Can age confidently until 2032 and beyond. (Tasted May, 2024)
